There are a few different ways to create a shortcut file, but the easiest method is to locate the actual file, right click on it, and choose Copy . Then go to the location on your computer where you want the shortcut to that file to be (such as your desktop), then right click and choose Show more options and then Paste shortcut rather than choosing Paste itself as I discussed in the section on how to copy and move files. In figure 4.25, the file on the left is the original Sales.xlsx file, and the file on the right is what you will see after you paste a shortcut. Notice how it keeps the name and just adds - Shortcut after it. The icon also has a blue arrow indicating that it’s a shortcut and not the actual file. You can rename the file to take off the shortcut label and the blue arrow will stay so you will still be able to tell it’s a shortcut and not the actual file itself.
